CEC arrives today, to review guj poll preparedness

Chief Election Commissioner VS Sampath is coming to Gujarat on Monday to
review preparation of electoral rolls and the overall preparedness of the administration
for the upcoming assembly elections, slated for later this year.
Sampath will be accompanied by deputy election commissioner Vinod Zutshi,
and other officials from the Commission. “The chief election commissioner is coming to
review progress of revision electoral roll revision. He will also take stock of preparedness
of the administration for the state assembly elections,” said an official in State Election
Commission. The CEC will meet representatives of political parties during his visit. The
Opposition Congress is likely to rake up the issue of absence of a full-time DGP in the
state before the CEC.
Sampath and the commission will meet district collectors and other government
officials, and also hold meetings with State Election Commission officials.
“The SEC will make a presentation about the revision of electoral rolls and its
preparedness before the CEC,” said the official. The CEC is also slated to interact with
the media before winding up his visit, said officials. The CEC’s visit comes just a few
days after separate visits to the state by two deputy election commissioners, including
Zutshi.
