Ahmedabad: A magisterial court on Thursday asked the Supreme Court-appointed
special investigation team (SIT) to furnish complete and legible copies of
documents to complainant Zakia Jafri in connection with her complaint against
chief minister Narendra Modi and others in the 2002 riots.
The SIT had filed a closure report and supplied a copy of relevant documents to Zakia according to the SC directions. However, Zakia claimed that SIT did not furnish all relevant documents and that many copies were illegible. Accordingly, the court permitted her lawyers to inspect the original documents of the SIT’s report submitted in court.
After a joint-inspection by Zakia’s lawyers and SIT personnel, they reached the conclusion that some copies were really illegible and there were some documents that are not complete. Zakia’s counsel furnished a list of such documents before the court and sought legible, complete copies.
Metropolitan magistrate B J Ganatra directed SIT to furnish legible and complete copies and supply them to Zakia. The court also directed SIT to file an affidavit by September 7 on the issue of the documents collected by the probe agency .
