Cong opens e-queue for free laptops

Ahmedabad:The Gujarat Congress on Friday started online registration for free laptops for students. This is the third form relatedto a poll promisethatthe Congressofferedto votersin the state.
    The party had earlier asked urban women voters to fill up forms for availing affordable houses, and in the rural areas the women were asked to fill up forms for the 100 sq yard free plots, all of which will materialize of the Congress comes to power.
    Gujarat Pradesh Congress presidentArjun Modhwadia put the form online and also gave specification of the laptop which will be given free to the college students or those doing professional courses.
    Modhwadia said that a branded laptop with dual core processor andfour GBRAMwill be given to the students. He said that an eligiblestudentwillhave to fill up the online forms. Student will have to submit their class XII mark sheet, driving license and even the college ID cards to make themselves eligible for the free laptop scheme.
    In order to woo over eight lakh university students — many of them first time voters —Congresshas announcedthat if voted to power, the party would give free laptops, scholarship and hostels to the students.
    Modhwadia said the move was aimed at equipping the students with the latest technology. Many students are a deprived lot in absence of laptop and hence Congress has decided to meet their need.
    The online registration began at 5 pm and by the late evening about1,000studentshad filled in their details. To show the commitment, the Congress will give away 12 laptops in each zone by draw system, he said.
Sibal gifts Aakash tablets to CM
New Delhi: Union HRD minister Kapil Sibal has sent two Aakash-2 tablets to Gujarat CM Narendra Modi following latter’s dig at the low cost gadget being elusive. In a letter, sent with the gift, Sibal requested the CM to keep education out of politics. As part of election promise, Gujarat Congress has said it will give free tablets to students if voted to power. Sibal also told Modi that Aakash-2 represented the “progressive endeavour of our country to empower the aam aadmi”. AGENCIES
