'Irregularities' in AMC accounts: Cong slams BJP

The Opposition Congress at the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has slammed BJP for alleged irregularities in the accounts departments. Congress leader Badruddin Shaikh in a statement on Wednesday said nothing was being done for recovery of “cheques worth Rs 49 crore paid to the civic body being bounced”. He also pointed out at creation of “fictitious income” by the AMC through showing over-valuation of properties while giving figures of income from sale of municipal lands. Meanwhile, in a memorandum given to the Jamalpur zonal officer of Food and Civil Supplies Department, the Opposition party complained of leakages in the public distribution system whereby “10 per cent of grains and 15 per cent of kerosene make their way to open market” every month in the area.
