It is still not clear what message has the BJP central leadership
given to former chief minister Keshubhai Patel on his campaign for
Narendra Modi’s removal as chief minister. In the four days that he
camped here till Friday, Keshubhai met L K Advani, Murli Manohar
Joshi, Sushma Swaraj and Rajnath Singh.
However, the leaders apparently did not say anything to him. Keshubhai
is learnt to have told his confidants, “Since the central party
leaders did not object to my statements against Modi, it shows their
approval of what I am doing in the state,’’ Patel also said that if
the central party leaders kept mum and did not respond on the issue of
his demand for removal of Modi, it did not mean that they were in
favour of continuance of Modi as CM and party leader in the state.
Former chief minister Keshubhai, who has become a rallying point for
anti-Narendra Modi forces in the state BJP, is reported to have told
the central party leaders that “if you don’t do anything to remove
Modi from chief ministership, then the people will do this job’’.
His confidantes said that the septuagenarian Patel was not going to
quit the party at the moment.
“He will decide about it at an opportune moment’’, sources close to Patel said.
