Former Gujarat Director General of Police R B Sreekumar has raised concerns over security for Additional District Principal Judge Jyotsna Yagnik who convicted 32 persons, including BJP MLA Maya Kodnani and Babu Bajrangi, in the Naroda Patiya riot case, last week.
In letters to Special Investigation Team chairman R K Raghavan and in-charge DGP Chitranjan Singh, Sreekumar has stated that “possibility of any desperate adventurist action jeopardising the personal safety and security of Judge Jyotsna Yagnik by disgruntled elements cannot be ruled out”.
The letter states that Hindu radical organisations, under the umbrella of the Sangh Parivar, are highly depressed over “the unexpected failure” of the state government. It states that “even if Sangh would not plan any untoward action against the Judge, somebody in these groups, on one’s own individual initiative can indulge in targeted action”.
When contacted, Singh said he has not received any such letter yet and if there is any intelligence input related to security threat, the police will act accordingly.
