Most office-bearers of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) from Gujarat have
announced they are joining Gujarat Parivartan Party (GPP). The
announcement was made at a press conference here on Friday.
It is a major boost for the GPP floated by Keshubhai Patel and Gordhan
Zadafia as BSP, despite its lower numbers, commands large popularity
among members of the scheduled castes, scheduled tribes and other
backward classes.
“We have decided to join GPP as we have realised that to serve the
poor and backward people of Gujarat we need local leadership and
influence. BSP was not able to provide us the platform as most
national leaders are from outside the state,” president of BSP’s
Gujarat unit, Dr Naresh Acharya, said.
He said that only ‘exploiters’ in Gujarat are benefiting due to the
policies of the Narendra Modi government. “We are joining GPP as we
believe in Keshubhai’s leadership and feel that he takes up the cause
of the common man irrespective of his caste, creed or religion,” he
said explaining the decision.
Welcoming the BSP leaders, general secretary of GPP Gordhan Zadafia
said, “We welcome all those who want to serve the backward people. We
are a party which is demanding change in governance, policy making and
administration. Our party will be the voice of the poor and backward
people.” Apart from state president of BSP, general secretaries, 26
heads of district level units and taluka presidents joined the GPP.
With them they will also bring some 5,000 working members to the new
party.
