The sting operation CD of Tehelka is a big and concrete piece of evidence against the three accused in the Naroda Patia case -- Babu Bajrangi, Suresh Langda and Prakash Chhara.

In 2002, Tehelka carried out a sting operation titled 'Operation Kalank' in which it secretly recorded, with the help of hidden cameras, the confession of various 2002 riot accused across the state of Gujarat.

The three Naroda Patia accused also figured in the sting operation, in which they boasted of their participation in the massacre.

Later, Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP) along with the riot victims demanded that the sting CD be brought on record and the journalist, Ashish Khaitan, who carried out the sting also confirmed before the court that the three accused had boasted about their misdeeds.

CJP also sent the CD to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), which in turn gave it to the CBI in Mumbai asking it to check for authenticity.

CBI sent the CD to FSL in Hyderabad, Jaipur and Chandigarh. In 2010 it confirmed that the CD was original and there had been no tampering. Another big piece of evidence against the three accused is the voice spectrograph test done on their sample voices, which turned out to be a positive match with the voices in the CD.
