Guarantor in dock as convict jumps bail

Ahmedabad: A convict in the Naroda Patia case Suresh alias Shehzad Netalkar did not turn up before the special court on Thursday also even as the court’s queries in this regard highlighted embarrassing facts.
Netlkar was not present on the day of verdict on Wednesday, and special judge Jyotsna Yagnik issued a non-bailable warrant against him and sought an explanation from the SIT.
When Netalkar didn’t show, the court asked the probe agency to bring Netalkar’s guarantor, who surprisingly revealed that he did not know Netalkar at all. He conceded that he became guarantor when Netalkar was released on bail at the behest of his lawyers. The court sent SIT officials and three lawyers were brought to court immediately. They told the court that a ‘professional guarantor’ was managed because they wanted to help a member of their community.
The court has scheduled proceedings for Friday and warned the guarantor and lawyers that it would take stern action if the convict did not turn up.
