Eyewitness to Kauserbi’s murder traced

The CBI team, which is probing the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case, has found an important eye-witness to the murder of the slain gangster’s wife Kauserbi. CBI officials claim that this eye-witness has cleared the mystery behind the murder of Kauserbi.
The CBI has worked hard to keep the identity of the eye witness a secret. “The witness was taken to the Arham Farm in the outskirts of Ahmedabad and also to Ilol near Himmatnagar in Sabarkantha district recently. Kauserbi was murdered in Arham and then her body was cremated surreptitiously in Ilol. In all these trips the witness was wearing a black burkha,” said a CBI source.
CBI, till date, in its chargesheet filed before a local court, was silent on the Kauserbi issue. Kauserbi is believed to have been killed on November 28, 2005, a couple of days after Sohrabuddin was gunned down in a staged encounter near Naroda.
In this second phase of the investigations, the CBI top brass had given some specific tasks to the CBI team. The investigators were asked to probe deeper into the Kauserbi case. “There is a mention of Sohrabuddin and even Tulsiram Prajapati encounter in the chargesheet, but the murder of Sohrabuddin’s wife remained a mystery till date. Even basic details needed to establish that the woman had been killed were not unearthed by the CBI team that was earlier probing the case,” said a CBI official.
This new development – the eye-witness being tracked down – has enthused the CBI investigators since the agency is scheduled to file a chargesheet in the Tulsiram case on August 14. The CBI team is also on its last extension granted by the Supreme Court. This is the eighth extension for the team probing the Tulsiram, Sohrabuddin and Kauserbi’s killings. Now, CBI officials claim that all the three murder mysteries have been solved. “Apart from those cops already arrested, we’ve found that several other senior Gujarat police officials had played a role in the conspiracy behind the two encounters of Sohrabuddin and Tulsiram and the murder of Kauserbi. These officers will be accused in the chargesheet,” said the official.
The CBI probe has also exposed the lackluster investigations carried out by CID (Crime), Gujarat, which was earlier probing the case. The second phase of CBI investigations has revealed that the CID officials had conducted the probe and then drawn up the case papers in a manner that effectively shielded several top cops of Gujarat.
