Court disposes JSM plea for SIT report

The Special Trial Court for the 2002 Naroda Patiya massacre case has disposed of a petition that demanded direction to the Supreme Court-appointed SIT to submit its final report on further investigation done on an application that sought probe into alleged larger conspiracy in the case.
The court passed an order in this regard on Wednesday following a statement by an SIT officer that they would be filing the report as and when it was ready.
The petition was moved by NGO Jan Sangharsh Manch (JSM).
Earlier, JSM had filed an application under the provisions of Criminal Procedure Code. The NGO had sought further investigation in the case with regard to larger conspiracy, connivance and/or criminal negligence by police officers that resulted into death of a large number of persons and analysis of telephone call data contained in CDs produced by IPS officer Rahul Sharma.
JSM’s lawyer said the SIT initially carried out investigation on the application, but despite an order of the special trial court, it did not file any report on the same. Following this, JSM moved a fresh petition seeking the investigation report.
The court has almost concluded the trial and is likely to pronounce judgment on June 30.
