The state-level celebrations of Gujarat Day took place amid fervour at Dahod on Tuesday, the 53rd Foundation Day of the state.

On the occasion, chief minister Narendra Modi announced an ambitious bulk water supply scheme of Rs456 crore to provide water for drinking and irrigation for 210 villages of North Dahod. He also announced an underground sewer scheme of Rs45 crore for Dahod city.

The CM also performed the inaugurations or foundation stone-laying ceremonies of eight projects in the tribal-dominated district.

Speaking on the occasion, Modi said that his government was celebrating development festival in the state, while the opponents were celebrating the decade of lies. He also said that the government was committed to ensure that Dahod flourished as a business hub like in the past.

Modi also mentioned that the nation owed a big debt of gratitude to Dahod as the revolution of 1857 had witnessed first group of freedom fighters from the district.

"It is unfortunate that sacrifices of a large number of tribal martyrs, who laid down their lives for freedom of the nation, have been erased," he said.

Earlier in the day, the CM paid floral tributes at the statue of Indulal Yagnik, the architect of Mahagujarat Movement, in Ahmedabad, on the occasion of completion of 52 years of Gujarat's Statehood.
