BJP hails SIT decision on Modi

BJP hails SIT decision on Modi

Express news service : New Delhi

The BJP on Tuesday said it was relieved by the decision of the Supreme Court-appointed SIT to exculpate Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi in the case relating to Gulberg Society carnage in Ahmedabad in which Congress MP Ehsan Jafri was among the 69 persons killed during the 2002 Gujarat riots.
The SIT has sought closure of the case as it has failed to find any evidence against Modi, according to the order of the Metropolitan Magistrate in Ahmedabad announced on Tuesday. “If media reports that the SIT found no prosecutable evidence against Modi are true, then we are very relieved as an international and national campaign against Modi to somehow frame him for the Gujarat riots was on for the last 10 years,” BJP chief spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad told reporters here.
Sushma Swaraj, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, was quick to tweet that the vilification campaign against Modi should now come to an end. “No evidence against Narendra Modi says the SIT appointed by the Supreme Court. A big relief for us. Ten years of vilification campaign must stop,” she tweeted.
Prasad said while the riots and deaths in Gujarat were unfortunate, the riots could not be the bogey for targeting Modi. “Investigation cannot be continued on manufactured evidence,” he said.
Senior Gujarat minister and government spokesperson Jay Narayan Vyas said in a statement in Ahmedabad, “The SIT directly working under the SC has submitted its report today. It becomes clear from the report...that the elements which tried to defame the Gujarat government by taking the legal investigation in other directions are now exposed. Gujarat will keep its growth among all odds.''

Real fight will begin now: Zakia
SURAT:
Zakia Jafri, the 74-year-old widow of former Congress MP Ehsan Jafri who was killed in the 2002 Gulberg Society massacre, said on Tuesday her fight has not ended with the SIT giving a clean chit to Chief Minister Narendra Modi. Zakia, who had filed a petition accusing Modi and 61 others of playing a role in the 2002 riots, said she was happy over the court's decision to provide her with a copy of the SIT report. “...SIT's closure report clears Modi and others, but we have full faith in the judiciary. We have consulted our legal advisers. Now, the real fight will begin. The court will have to listen to us before coming to any conclusion,” Zakia said.
