Modi govt serving industries at the cost of OBCs: Congress

Gujarat EDN

Launching a scathing attack on Chief Minister Narendra Modi, the state
Congress today called his Sadbhavana Mission a “drama” and accused him of
spending public money on self-promotional events at the cost of OBCs’
welfare.

“Sadbhavana Mission is a drama. The Chief Minister is just indulging in
self-promotional activities in the name of fasts and wasting public money.
He is making desperate attempts to wash off the blot of 2002 in the name of
Sadbhavana,” said Shankersinh Vaghela, party’s election campaign manager,
while addressing an OBC meet in Karelibaug area here.

Calling the 2002 riots a conspiracy, Vaghela said, “Instead of handing over
to their families, why was the bodies of 59 kar sevaks taken to Ahmedabad
from Godhra? Would the CM do the same had the train burning incident
happened in his hometown?”

Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Arjun Modhwadia said
Modi was misleading people in the name of sadbhavana. “If he has got
sadbhavana in his heart, he should extend it to the families of the 59 kar
sevaks killed in Godhra. The IPS officers who are lodged in jails should
also get a piece of sadbhavana. But he would not do this,” Modhwadia said.

He further alleged that the policies of Modi were benefiting a handful of
industrialists while the welfare OBCs, who account for over 50 per cent of
the state’s population of 6.25 crore, had gone for a toss. “The Sadbhavana
slogan is ‘Sauno saath, sauno vikas’ (everybody’s participation,
everybody’s development). But the ground reality says, ‘Sauno sath, 100
(industrialists) no vikas (Everybody’s participation, development of 100),”
Modhwadia said.

Union Minister of State for Railways Bharatsinh Solanki said that a few
corporate houses get 100 of acres of land at throwaway prices, but OBCs
cannot afford to by a 100-square feet residential plot. He said OBCs were
losing land to these big corporations, thanks to policies of the state
government.

Vadodara city Congress president Narendra Ravat said that OBC students
living in rural areas were struggling to get jobs due to the introduction
of online application system. “There are eight lakh unemployed youth in the
state. Many of them are living in rural areas where they do not have access
to Internet and so they are finding it hard to apply for jobs,” Ravat said.

Nearly 40,000 people from Vadodara district attended the meet.
